About Manili

Manili is an independent project. It checks public business websites and lets owners know when something looks broken.

What we do

Most small business owners don't look at their own website every day. When a security certificate expires, a menu link breaks or a booking link stops working, the owner is often the last to know, and visitors simply go elsewhere.

Our checks are automated and only read pages anyone can see. When one finds a clear problem, we send the business one short note through the contact form on its website, signed Sam. We also run Spotted!, the free checker on our home page, so anyone can test their own site.

Received a note from Manili?

It means an automated check found something on your website that visitors may run into. Each note:

  • Names one specific problem, such as an expired security certificate or a menu link that leads to a "page not found" error.
  • Says how you can check it yourself in your own browser.
  • Doesn't ask you to reply, pay or click anything.
  • Is short and sent once. We may follow up once if we hear nothing, then we leave you alone.

How we find websites

We find businesses through public listings such as OpenStreetMap. The checks read only public pages, the way a visitor's browser does. They look at things like the security certificate, whether https is set up, and whether links, images and booking links work. They don't log in or try to get past any protection.

Is it free?

The checker and our notes are free. If you'd rather have someone fix a problem for you, we may be able to introduce you to a partner who does. If you use a service we introduce, we may receive a referral fee, which doesn't change your price (see Notices). Any paid service would be described clearly before you agreed to anything.
